A printed letter, but signed “Susan Hampden” (1846-1909), from the wife of Lord Hampden, the Governor of New South Wales 1895-1899. Dated 14 April 1897 on Government House letterhead

HAMPDEN, Susan, Lady

The letter is an invitation to an anonymous “Sir” to attend a meeting at Government House to discuss Lady Hampden’s idea that “there can be no more fitting way to commemorate, in this Colony, Her Majesty’s record reign, than by founding a hospital for the cure of Consumption.”
