Samuel Terry [1776?- 1838], convicted of theft, arrived in Australia on the convict transport Earl Cornwallis in 1801. His sentence expired in 1807, and through purchase of land and money lending, became the richest man in New South Wales. The 1828 census lists both John Bowling [1790-1839] and Thomas Rixon [1808-1883]. Bowling arrived as a convict on the Lord Eldon in 1817; Rixon was born in the colony
