Autograph letter, signed. Brief letter on University of Sydney letterhead from Mungo William MacCallum (1854-1942) in turn Professor of Modern Literature, Vice Chancellor and Chancellor of the university. The letter is a note of thanks, dated 28 April 1906, to Senator Walker for his congratulations on an “honor conferred” on MacCallum by the university and on his son’s simultaneous success. The letter very likely refers to the award of a Rhodes Scholarship to Mungo Lorenz MacCallum (1884-1934). Senator Walker is almost certainly James Walker (1841-1923) who was elected to the first Senate of the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901 where he served until 1913
