The letter is to Lee Shrubb, in her capacity as assistant editor of Australia’s Quadrant magazine, thanking her for the obituary (by Peter Shrubb) of F. R. Leavis in Quadrant. The letter, closely written on a blue aerogramme, is a bitter cry from the heart about the `spite & jealousy of the Eng. Lit. Establishment & New Grub Street… all the slanders, denigrations and lies put about by the Cambridge English Faculty over the past half century have been registered for posterity’
