A prize inscription inside front cover from the Kings School reads `Prize for mathematics awarded to H. M. Baylis from the headmaster, Geo F. Macarthur’. With fine colonial provenance. The King’s School at Parramatta, Sydney, is Australia’s first independent school. Rev. George Fairfowl Macarthur, the son of Hannibal Hawkins Macarthur and Anna Maria, daughter of Governor King, was appointed headmaster in 1868. H. M. Baylis is presumably the son of the early colonial settler, Henry Baylis
