The Adventures of Hajji Baba in Ispahan. 3 volumes
[MORIER James Justinian]
Description: small 8vos, old half calf, marbled boards, worn, hinges tender
Published anonymously, ‘Hajji Baba’ was the first excursion into fiction by Morier (c.1780-1849) who had served as a diplomat in Persia and published several accounts of his travels there. ‘Hajji Baba’, a picaresque comedy, gave a colourful and allegedly accurate presentation of life in Persia at that time. It was immensely popular, and went into a second edition that same year.
